About Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz
Shahid Chamran University is located in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province in the southwest of Iran. Bordering Iraq's Basra, Missan Provinces, and the Persian Gulf, Khuzestan Province is considered the "heart of the country". As the seat of the Iranian oil and gas industry, water resources and dams, sea ports, power plants, agriculture, steel industry, sugar cane industry, and many other major industrial factories, the province is the land of dreams for entrepreneurs in different economic, industrial, and agricultural fields. Moreover, the province is the seat of the five most important rivers of Iran headed by the Karun River, the longest and the most voluminous river of Iran. In ancient times, Khuzestan had been an important region in the Middle East where the Persian Empire was born, when it was referred to as Elam whose capital was in Susa. Thus, nowadays the Province is considered the Mecca of historians and archeologists. Demographically, the province is home to a multicultural community of different ethnic minorities of Persian and Arab origins who are living peacefully side by side.
The history of our university dates back to the sixth century A.D. when it was the Academy of Gundishapur. It was then the intellectual center of the Sassanid Empire. At that time, it offered training programs in Medicine, Philosophy, Theology, and Science. Meanwhile, the name was associated with scientific disciplines and research excellence, and according to The Cambridge History of Iran, the academy was the most important medical center of the ancient world during the 6th and 7th centuries.
In 1955 the first nucleus of the modern university was formed as a revival of the ancient Academy of Gundishapur with the founding of the Faculty of Agriculture in Ahvaz. It was hence correspondingly named Jundishapur University. In 1982, however, the university was renamed "Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz" to commemorate the late Dr. Mostafa Chamran, a UC Berkeley Ph.D. graduate and a commander of paramilitary volunteers in Iran–Iraq War, who had stationed his battalion in the campus of Jundishapur University.
At present, the university is the leading research and educational center in the southwest of Iran with a beautiful campus of more than 180 acres alongside the ancient and beautiful Karun River. It houses 13 colleges and 8 research centers. The university has full academic and recreational facilities, such as libraries, equipped laboratories, workshops, amphitheaters, dormitories, dining halls, restaurant, sports complex, gym, swimming pool, bookshop, printing house, counseling center, medical clinic, guesthouses, and more which give service to faculty members, students, and guests. More than 577 academics including 71 full professors, 130 associate professors, and 376 assistant professors and instructors are engaged in teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, and research activities. There are about 16000 students currently studying in undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs.
About Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology was established in 1977 with the aim of creating a strong technical and engineering hub for training young engineers and meeting the industrial needs of Khuzestan province and the country.
About Department of Electrical Engineering
The Department of Electrical Engineering of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, with a history of about five decades, is the largest specialized group of electrical engineering in the southwest of the country. During its years of activity, this group has been the source of valuable services in the field of education and research and has covered an important part of the technical needs of various industries in Khuzestan province and neighboring provinces.
Existence of various specialized laboratories such as: semiconductor devices, integrated circuit design, image and signal processing, telecommunication circuits, pulse technique, electric drives, electric machines, relays and protection, industrial control, etc. are part of the facilities of the electrical engineering group.
Selected as the best educational group of the university in 2017, the second rank of the university in publishing ISI articles in 2016, the introduction of a book worthy of appreciation in the 31st book of the year of the Islamic Republic of Iran (2013), the introduction of the best book of the country's electricity industry in 2013 , Introducing the country's exemplary professor in 2012, the first rank of the National Movement Festival in 2012, the first rank of aerospace competitions with ghost birds (as a partner) in 2012, writing and translating various books, publishing numerous articles in the most prestigious international scientific journals and Concluding industrial contracts with various industries is part of the capability of the electrical engineering department of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz.
Currently, nearly 1,000 students specialize in power (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), electronics (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), telecommunication systems (undergraduate, and doctoral) and control are studying for a master's degree or a doctorate.
About Department of Computer Engineering
Department of Computer Engineering, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, started its work in 1998 with the cooperation of the Department of Statistics of the Faculty of Science, under the name of "Department of Statistics and Computer" at the undergraduate level of software. In 2003, it was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering as an independent computer group. In 2008, a master's degree in artificial intelligence was launched and is currently working in the fields of education and research.
Currently, the Department of Computer Engineering of the School of Engineering, in addition to a computer site and audiovisual class (Laboratory No. 1 for senior students), has three laboratories under the following titles:
Laboratory No. 2 (for laboratory courses, database and computer workshop)
Lab No. 3 (for operating system and microprocessor lab courses)
Lab No. 4 (for computer architecture laboratory courses, logic-architecture circuits).
Since 2013, according to the changes approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, software orientation is known with a number of specialized focuses that the computer group currently supports the specialized concentrations of "computer networks" and "artificial intelligence".
In 2014, a number of Raspberry Pi boards were purchased for operating system labs and undergraduate student projects. Also, a computational cluster with 160 processing cores, entitled "Rapid Processing Center of Shahid Chamran University", with the financial support of the Aerospace Headquarters and the Vice Chancellor for Research, will be set up and operated for graduate students of the Computer Department and other departments of the Faculty of Engineering has taken.
Despite the development of this group in recent years, due to the industrial nature of the region and the strong need for experts in this field in all fields and industries, the advancement and development of the computer group to reach the scientific and research hub in the field of information technology and computer in the area is considered. Accordingly, in the five-year development plan of the Faculty of Engineering (92-97), it is predicted that in the coming years, a specialized orientation or focus on hardware at the undergraduate level, a computer network orientation at the master's level and an artificial intelligence orientation at the doctoral level will be launched. Be. In addition, the preparation of training boards for microprocessor laboratories and logic-architecture circuits and the joining of the fast-processing center to the national grade will be other programs in the coming years.
